1. Financial assistance for students from backward classes
1000 rupees. 10.00,000.00 (Rupees Ten Lakhs) per annum to provide financial assistance to students of backward classes (SC, ST, NT, DT, SBC) studying in various departments of the University. Applications are submitted by the head of the department during admission.
Students whose parents’ annual income is less than Rs one million can avail of this program. There are four categories of students covered by this scheme [1] Students enrolled in self-help courses living in hostels – an amount of Rs.9,000.00 and students not living in hostels, around Rs.7,000.00/ -. . . . It has been decided to provide a research grant of Rs.1000 from the year 2005-06. 2,000.00 per month for final year students entering university departments to pursue a Ph.D. Diploma (full-time). 1000 rupees. 10,00,000.00 to 2,40,000.00 per year for 10 scholarships.
Applications should be sent to the Director of Student Affairs through the department head. The deadline for submission of applications is September 15 every year.
2. Financial assistance to students in need
Under Mumbai University Scholarships : 1000 rupees. 1,00,00,000.00 (Rupees One Crore) from 2004-05 to provide financial assistance to economically challenged students studying in various colleges/institutions/departments affiliated to the University. . . . . Application forms are available from the office of the Director/Dean/Head of Department.
Only two applications from eligible students from each college/institution/department will be invited based on merit in this procedure. Students whose annual parental income is less than Rs 75,000.00 are eligible for the scheme.
The application should be forwarded to the Director of Student Welfare, the University of Mumbai through the Dean/Director and Head of Department.
3. Book banking system
Every year, the university provides financial assistance to its affiliated colleges to implement the book bank system for undergraduate students. The Director of Student Welfare sends a message to all colleges asking their heads of schools to implement the plan.
Based on the number of students who return to the college and the budget allocated to the project after calculations, a certain amount is returned to the college for each student.
From 2004-2005, it was decided that the department of the university would start a policy in favor of graduating graduates.
4. Group insurance policy
From 2001-2002, the University, in association with National Insurance Company Limited, launched a group insurance scheme known as Youth Protection for students of academically affiliated colleges/institutions of the departments.
Youth Protection covers college and university students against accidents, including accidental death, permanent disability, or hospitalization, under group and individual insurance policies.
Participation in adventure sports and hazardous activities shall be subject to prior approval of the college/department and institution/authority. It offers 24 hours coverage within and outside India for a year.
The Director of Student Welfare sends a message to all colleges affiliated with the University at the beginning of the year requesting this project at the college and department level.
The principals of the colleges will implement the program at their level and will sign a memorandum of understanding with the National Insurance Company Limited. In departments, the head of the department will sign and implement the plan, and the director of the Center will implement the plan and be the authorized signatory.
The premium rate to cover the project is Rs.20.00 per annum. 50,000.00 or Rs. 37.00 plus guaranteed value. 1,00,000.00. At the time of admission, fees should be collected directly from the principal/institution and head of the department along with the list of students.

5.. Government Scholarships
Following Government Scholarships are also made available to the student studying at University Affiliated colleges/Institutions and Departments:
· Government of India scholarship/ freeship to C/ST/DT/NT/SBC category students. Students whose parents’ income is less than Rs. One lakh per annum an eligible to get the freeship Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship to 100 students for higher education within India for eg. IIM/IIT etc.
· Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship to 10 students for UG/PG [8 + 2] students aboard.
