Diploma in Engineering

Diploma in Engineering : Due to high course fees, some Candidates are unable to enroll themselves in Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of technology.

So the Candidate enrolls themselves in a diploma in engineering course to get direct admission into the 2nd year of B.tech and B.E program by a lateral scheme.

A diploma in engineering acts as a back door entry into the B.tech/B.E reducing the overall fee for Candidates taking up a diploma course.

Engineering courses, which are a total of six years including two years in class 11 and 12th and then four years in the completion of the complete course, the same qualification is achieved with the 3-year diploma course which Candidate can pursue after 10th.

Entrance engineering exams like JEE Main and JEE Advanced or state or common entrance exams can be skipped with the diploma courses.

The study of diplomas in engineering courses can be in a yearly or a semester pattern depending on the institution. The majority of the yearly pattern diploma in engineering courses have a duration of three years.

Whereas, the institution which follows the semester pattern provides the courses in four years. These four years are combined with three years of study and one year for an industrial internship.

These courses can be classified into two types depending on the entrance exam qualification required, the first is the post-senior secondary certificate, and the second one is a post-higher secondary certificate.

The candidate after class 10th can pursue the post-senior secondary certificate courses offered by the institutes. The candidate after 10+2 can pursue the higher-senior secondary certificate courses offered by the institutes.

The minimum qualification required for admission in the diploma in engineering is senior secondary(10th) or higher secondary(10+2). The minimum aggregate percentage varies from institution to institution, so candidates must check it before applying for diploma courses.

After the successful completion of a diploma degree, Candidates are eligible to enter B.Tech/B.E programs. Not only Candidate are eligible to get admission in B.Tech/B.E program but direct admission to the 2nd year is also possible. The test by which this is possible is known as Lateral Entry Test (LET).

If the Candidate meets the criteria of the B.Tech/B.E programs in the LET then the Candidate can apply for the 2nd year of their respective courses. The contents of the B.Tech/B.E programs and diploma courses are similar during the initial stages but a change in the latter stage.

Those who have a diploma in engineering may have an upper hand in terms of the fundamentals of the course over the regular B.Tech/B.E Candidate who joins the course after completing 10+2 board examinations.

The Diploma Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers is a diploma-level examination held by the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE).

The exam is conducted twice in a year (June and December) in various institutions across India. Quite often Candidates are not able to pursue a full-time engineering course for various reasons. Just to get a basic understanding of the engineering field, Candidates often do a diploma in engineering.
